Globally, the situation of conserving species of
medicinal plants is in a precarious state.
Between 15,000 and 50,000 medicinal plants are estimated to be under threat of
extinction.
The
International Research Group for the Conservation of Medicinal Plants, is a
non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO).
It has a commitment to
- Educating people about the uniquely important role
that medicinal plants play in global biodiversity, in contributing to
human health and livelihoods and therefore the need for their
conservation
- Developing and supporting research projects that contribute to medicinal plant conservation
